Pete Seeger is one of folk music’s greatest heroes. He is a radically inspiring idealist, lifelong revolutionary, and an extremely compassionate artist who has consistently utilized his musical talents to benefit the collective community. Pete was against segregation and wrote protest songs trying to spread awareness with a universal call to just action. He inspired Martin Luther King with his performance of ‘we shall overcome’, entertained his fellow troops in WW2, traveled and played with Woody Guthrie, and was a huge inspiration for artists like Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. He taught music to many children throughout the years, and proclaims that his favorite experiences performing have been in elementary schools and summer camps. Recently I watched a great documentary about his life and highly recommend his extremely inspirational story. His “musical fight” has won many battles harnessing the power of song, and much like Woodie Guthrie, he has inscribed his musical intention on the face of his banjo with the words ‘this machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender’. He is truly a visionary, and is still very alive today at 92. You can watch the documentary titled ‘Pete Seeger & the Power of Song’ free on youtube here.

We each have an opportunity to inspire action by knowing ourselves and by using our individual gifts to benefit the collective that we either consciously or unconsciously represent. To me, music has been a very powerful tool that I have been able to harness to heal myself emotionally as well as attuning my spirit with my physical self. This intimate reflective process has allowed me to dive deep into my psyche to access my own personal truths as well as universal truths that are connected to those that interact with my experiences.

There are many levels of chaos in the world today, and with the mass flood of information at our fingertips comes an enormous need to help one another understand what is happening now. I personally feel a calling to help others navigate through this current matrix in a way that allows for the space and process necessary to bring about the fundamental changes that we are all in dire need of inventing and implementing into our current society framework. Unfortunately, it feels like there is so little music being made during this time to represent and confront these modern issues. I am aware of very few artists who have chosen to educate themselves and further choose to speak out in order to educate their followers. Much of the music being made now has somehow lost it’s intrinsic power to transmute ignorance and inspire evolutionary thought and action.

In my work with children I have had the great opportunity of sharing my passion for exploring and expressing emotions with music, and it is always a great honor to help facilitate the introduction and the awakening understanding of the spiritual healing power of music. There is so much unexplored space and desperate need for emotionally conscious and intentional music. If each one of us can learn anything from Pete Seeger, I would hope that it could be the lesson of knowing how powerful we are individually, and in that power, to discover the deep compassion that we can have for ourselves when we see ourselves in everyone else, and everyone else in ourselves. Imagine the music that can be made in that space! Something worth listening to because it gives you an honest insight into another piece of your mysterious soul.

I’ve been forwarding much of the information I’ve received from the Food Renegade blog onto family and friends for a while now and wanted to share this great resource with you. Most recently Kristen Michaelis has posted a new study published last week by the American Medical Association revealing alarmingly high levels of BPA found in those who eat food from cans. You can find her post here. If you ever eat from a can I highly recommend checking it out.

BPA is found in plastics and can be very dangerous for your health. Bottled water has been found to harmful for your health due to the chemicals leaching from the plastic into the water. For anyone who may not be aware of how incredibly toxic bottled water can be, I recommend watching ‘Tapped’. As with everything in life, the more information you have, the more empowered your every action can become.

In my childhood, when I was lonely and feeling overwhelmed by circumstances that were beyond my control, I would attach a ladder to my parents house and climb to the roof top to try to find myself in the stars. Living in a highly populated area with massive light pollution, there were few available to my curiously naked eyes, and in those dark moments I drew from the depths of my soul with what little light I could find. I instantly felt at home in the stars, and throughout my travels on this planet I have always found a profound depth of experience in my time spent gazing upward. If I had known what I know now about the Cosmos as a child, and this fantastically inspiring, almost incomprehensibly vast Universe we find ourselves consciously living in, I would have certainly become an astronaut.

I have an insatiable curiosity for the discoveries constantly being made during this time in history, and when I attempt to share this information with others I often find they become quite overwhelmed due to their lack of exposure to what is now known. I often wonder what the best methods for teaching children about our Universe will be in the near future, and hope to be able to contribute to their understanding of this great cosmic web we are a tiny part of. One artist who is doing an incredible job at accomplishing this is John D Boswell, who is leading a musical project called Symphony of Science that provides scientific music videos online. The videos he has created are not only masterful musically, but include many simple scientific truths that stretch the imagination and serve as a great reminder of our place in the Universe. You can download these incredible videos for free at Symphony of Science, and vinyl albums are available for purchase online from Jack White’s label (www.thirdmanrecords.com).

As I continue to try to comprehend the Great Mystery, my heart is inspired to discover the complexity and depth of the beauty we all possess as children of the stars. I am now very fortunate to be able to sleep under the stars every night, and when the sky is clear, these starry suns are the last light I see before I close my eyes and enter the dreamtime. I am so thankful for the images that are available online that help to bring definition to the specks of light as they reach into and open my mind.

Here are a few Youtube links to get you hooked:

Sir Ken Robinson presents his ideas on education and creativity in these two Ted Talks. He followed up with his second talk four years later after a huge online response to his first video. He is quite funny and very entertaining. He has a fascinating perspective of formal education and believes it has the power to alter and suppress a child’s ability to naturally develop their own unique language of creativity.

I have worked with many highly talented students who find themselves almost completely lost in their formal educational systems. With the M4tK program I have had the pleasure of presenting them with an opportunity to get in touch with their individual uniqueness, and I feel quite fortunate to be providing a musical process of self-reflection as well as self-exploration that fosters their innate wisdom and allows for an attuning of the creative and directional forces that lye within us all. Hopefully, in time, our formal educational systems will catch up to the rapid increase of creative energy that is bursting forth in this new generation.

Every once in a while, we come across something truly spectacular. Something that opens our eyes after opening our hearts, and allows one to receive a truthful and wise message. This video speaks to the humanness in us all, and the energetic urge that is reaching out into the future with a fragile curiosity, wondering where we will all choose to go from this delicate and pivitol moment in history. It is an inspiring view into the unknown, and a story told in a way that makes one feel understood throughout all of our collective evolution, and known in ways we have yet to fully discover for our individual selves.

When working with children, I know that one of the most urgent needs during this moment in time is to help these new generations begin to comprehend their hightest potential, and to empower their fertile imaginations toward raising their ideals so that they can break through the fog of consumerism that we have all been under, and be the ones that literally reach the stars.

Superfoods are radical. You can immediately feel the difference when you start to incorporate them into your daily routine, and they each have their own way of imparting their wisdom into our lives. It is a magical journey of higher consciousness and self discovery.

When I first learned about Superfoods I was blown away, but when I learned about a fast food chain that was INSIDE of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where many of my students receive their chemotherapy, I was EVEN MORE blown away. Fast food being promoted and supplied in a hospital that is treating children with terminal illnesses, most of which are immune deficiency releated? What!! It saddened me greatly, and I was determined to find out as much as possible about Superfoods so that I could in turn share this information with the kids and empower their abilities to heal themselves, much like I was already doing in teaching them about healing their emotions with music.

A great introductory book that is straightforward and simple is Superfoods by David Wolfe. We have given many copies of this book to our students, family, and friends over the past couple of years. It is an absolute honor to be passing this information on to others, and watching them become inspired and transformed is incredibly rewarding as well. There is also a great Superfood App that I recently discovered that is full of information that is easy to process and fascinating as well.

What we eat is easily as important as anything else in our lives. We each owe it to ourselves to experience our highest potential, and to thrive throughout these transformative and tempermental times of change. Unfortunately, there will always be aspects of our lives that are out of our control but do indeed affect us directly. What we put into our body is a choice we make, and it is incredible that Superfoods have surfaced into the mainstream to inspire us toward understanding that choice and to help shift our physical experience of ourselves gracefully.

We all possess super potential, and when we invite the best foods into our bodies, we are empowered to become the best that we can be. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. I wonder if anyone at Children’s Hospital would be dining on fast food if they understood this simple truth. If our goal is to live longer, why would anyone be eating fast food?

We thank the Universe for life and this Home every chance we get. Walk gently and honor the gravitational pull that grounds your every step on this path to enlightenment. Honor your inner knowing, and the wise voice that forever guides you toward compassion, generous peacefulness, and unconditional love for all beings on this plane of consciousness.

Believe that we are all connected, every part of everything is connected, we are all one. Know this in your heart as truth and move forward with ideas and visions to help everyone understand this fundamental bonding purpose. We share a common purpose, whether or not we understand or believe in one another. We are all the same, at different stages of the same cycle.

Our lives go round the wheel of karma, and we have an active roll in the form of choice at each stage of development. We are always in control of our choices, we need only to be reminded and aware of that fact.

How we see the world is the foundation for all we believe. If we fear what we do not understand, we are giving that confusion energy to manipulate our ability to shine at our highest potential. There are those that belong to a suppressing belief system, a group of humans who crown money as king. For them, anything can be bought, and indeed their souls are always on the market for anyone to rent who can afford the price they hang around their necks. This is not the way of human evolution, this is the way of the insecure and greedy coward. It is easy for someone to sell themselves when they do not know why they are here or what their life could really be worth.

It is not about having money or not having money, it is what you do with the resources you have that matters most….what you do with your time, our most precious resource. It’s about who you inspire with your love, and with your boundless imagination…how you live and what you live for, and where you are heading on your path as you take your next steps toward the Great Mystery and into the unknown.

When a song gets stuck in your head it is the ultimate reminder of how powerful music is, and when you find that you are repeating the lyrics over and over to yourself it really makes you aware of how crutial it is to choose your music wisely.

Musical lyrics can easily become mantra’s, and when we allow our minds to meditate on these mantras, consciously or unconsciously, we are transformed by the energetic vibrations we are repeating to ourselves. We are invoking the messages in the music, and inviting those themes to work their magic within. This can go in any direction, positive or negative, depending on what you are choosing to listen to, and what you are exposed to in passing.

I recently discovered an artist whose lyrics I can’t wait to get stuck in my head, with messages I never tire of, which is exceptionally rare for me. As I go about my day with these lyrics bouncing back and forth to the beat of my heart, I find that I am transformed in each moment anew, more inspired to do exactly what this song is telling me to do. “Be the change that you want to see in the world, just like Ghandi”. It is a powerful message that inspires higher consciousness and action, and this song delivers a fresh new way of jamming with a simple and profound concept.

A truly great artist inspires and touches you from within, bringing you closer to yourself and reminding you of your purpose here on this Earth. I am thankful for every great artist living in this world, working their magic as they learn to consciously channel the spirit that flows through us all. And for those whose effort it is to unite us during these times of radical transformation, I believe they deserve to be in everyones mind hypnotizing us all toward true empowerment.
