M4tK 2009 LA hospitals tour

M4tK will be touring the local Los Angeles Hospitals this year, an idea that came directly from the kids. They want to give back to the children that are in a place they all know too well, and they want to lift their spirits with the music we have made together. We will keep you posted with the stories, photos, and songs from these upcoming sessions. We are so thankful to be a part of this healing journey for all children, everywhere.

m4tk in-hospital session

M4tK at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

Session with Lily – December 12, 2009

Session with Angelica – May 1, 2009

This was a very special day in each of our lives. We arrived at Shriner’s with an open heart, unaware of what lay ahead. After we’d finished setting up our sacred space, the children filtered into the room with their parents and loved ones. Many more than we had been told were coming, what joy! It was a full house, and we were ready, until the hospital staff informed me that none of these beautiful ones spoke any english. As I believe all art is improvisational, we worked with this challenge in that medium and in the end were able to transform our differences and break through all language barriers with the music we made together and our heartfelt smiles. After I had played them our most recent song, “We’re Here”, that we had written only a few days before with our Venice M4tK group, they asked if we could translate it into their native tongue, so we all worked together to translate the song into Spanish. It was such a beautiful, and fun experience to write this new version with them, and once we all started singing, it came together magically. Everyone left with their own copy of the original song, as well as our new Spanish version. A magical memory in all of our hearts.

every child has a voice, we help them discover it

Music 4 the Kids (M4tK) was created by singer-songwriter Paula Ferraro to help children discover themselves and relate to the world around them in a more empathetic way.

M4tK provides innovative musical and creative instruction to kids who would otherwise not have access to it.

m4tk documentary

The Documentary will be shot during the upcoming LA sessions, one that captures the spirit of the kids as they open up and come together to make music and art – a film that projects the creative possibilities of childhood, and gives back to the kids all the joyful moments they experience and all the beautiful music they are taught to make. The film will be edited together into a single final product once the programs are complete, and distributed to the kids on DVD. The doc will capture Paula and the children, but it will also feature guest artists who will participate in the sessions. The film will also be a compelling promotional tool to support the growth of M4tK and to inspire others to approach music and arts instruction in similarly effective ways.
